Our team
Geoscience Australia is coordinating a national positioning capability that enables government, business, and academia to access the positioning data and services that are required to solve important challenges and drive innovation.
As a member of the GNSS Infrastructure and Informatics Section you will be at the forefront of developing, operating, and maturing world-class positioning infrastructure across Australia, Antarctica, and the Pacific.
More specifically, the Section is responsible for the provision of accurate and reliable positioning data and services to support a location enabled Australia. We do this through the operation of a regional network of positioning infrastructure and digital platforms.

The role
As an Operations Officer within the Positioning Operations Centre, you will play a critical role in supporting the operation of the National Positioning Infrastructure Capability (NPIC) by monitoring key systems, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring network performance measures are being met.
This recruitment is for multiple roles.
In this role you will:
- Use interactive computer systems and dashboards to monitor system status and performance; and identify and respond to incidents following standard operating procedures.
- Communicate with relevant stakeholders to provide notification of incidents and upcoming changes that may impact access, performance, or quality of our services.
- Contribute to the continuous development of standard operating procedures, work instructions, and guidelines relating to the operation and management of the National Positioning Infrastructure Capability.
- Coordinate public enquires and provide basic technical support to users on connectivity to NPIC services.
- Support the leadership team in maintaining a positive culture of continuous delivery by providing reports on incidents and system performance.
To be successful in the role you will:
- Work under limited direction; taking personal responsibility for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements; commit to meeting objectives; follow up to ensure that issues are finalised.
- Work collaboratively and operate as an effective team member; consult and share information within the team and seek input from others; consult other team members prior to making decisions that affect them; ensure people are kept informed of progress and issues.
- Maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders; confidently present and tailor technical information in both written and oral form to a range of audiences, including stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Support section management and actively contribute to and foster an inclusive culture within the team; Adhere to the APS Values and Code of Conduct and consistently behave in an honest, ethical, and professional manner.
