Our practice specialises in Medical/Surgical Retina, Oncology and Glaucoma. 8 Ophthalmologists are supported by more than 15 staff to provide unparalleled professional eye healthcare using the latest procedures and equipment.
Adelaide Eye and Retina Centre is continuing to expand and is seeking to appoint an Ophthalmic Assistant to our team based both in the CBD and our second clinic on Marion Road on a permanent part-time basis (approximately 15-20 hours per week with the flexibility to cover leave as required). Our clinics are open Monday to Friday with variable opening and closing hours.
Role
The role of Ophthalmic Assistant forms a vital part of the patient care process through the provision of support and education to patients in a friendly, polite and professional manner. It also provides support to Doctors by performing tests and preparing patients for consultations.
Specific Tasks Include
- Patient screening such as: Visual Field Tests, OCT imaging, Visual Acuity and Intraocular Pressure Testing using i-Care and Goldmann Applanation
- Medical history taking
- Preparing patients for FFA, Laser, Intravitreal Injections and other minor procedures.
- Theatre bookings
- Restocking consult and procedure rooms
- Assisting with general office duties
- Answering patient telephone enquiries
- Ensuring a positive experience for patients
Candidate
Preference will be given to candidates with ophthalmology experience. However, applications will be welcome from people who have experience in a medical/nursing environment underpinned by a good knowledge of medical and/or ophthalmic terminology. There is also the opportunity to obtain a certificate in ophthalmic medical assisting.
Other skills and personal attributes essential for success in the role include:
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, enabling quick rapport with patients
- A calm, friendly and professional demeanour, reflecting the Practice's image
- Good computer literacy and organisational skills
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
The position is best suited to a positive individual who has a strong focus on optimal outcomes and excellent communication skills. A strong team work ethic is a must, and attention to detail is paramount.
