An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Opthamolgist to be part of a new and innovative eye health service to regional Western Australia with a highly regarded service provider.
Lions Outback Vision (part of the Lions Eye Institute in Perth) has provided oversight and coordination of outreach eye health services in Western Australia since 2010. The service delivers a higher level of continuity for communities around the State with scheduled outreach visits to WA regions on the Lions Outback Vision Van and to Regional Health Campuses through scheduled outreach clinics.
Expressions of interest are invited for Ophthalmologists with a special interest in paediatric, glaucoma and diabetic eye diseases based in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. This is a new position providing eye health service delivery at a regional level by providing clinic and surgical coverage and supporting eye health workers to develop their surgical, clinical and management skills. The position also involves teaching, research and ophthalmic surgery at regional hospitals across the Goldfields and Esperance regions. Telehealth clinics are conducted daily and junior registrars are supervised in multiple clinical contexts.
The successful candidate will assume a direct clinical role and will contribute to the running and delivery of the Ophthalmology service including Day-case surgery and out-patient clinics across the Goldfields and Esperance regions.
The Requirements
• FRANZCO qualifications.
• Excellent management skills, including working with partners and stakeholders in regional or remote environments.
• An understanding and experience working in remote eye health.
• Experience working with Aboriginal people and an understanding of Aboriginal culture and the diverse issues relevant to regional and remote health.
• Supportive and encouraging management style, with demonstrated track record managing the performance and development of local staff.
• Excellent Training skills.
• Strong skills in coaching and providing feedback.
• Strong conceptual and analytical skills to be able to develop new initiatives, identify critical issues, build capacity and standardize processes.
All applicants must have FRANZCO qualifications, relevant subspecialty fellowship training and AHPRA accreditation.
The Package
This is a full-time position working 75 hours per fortnight, which includes travel across the Goldfields and Esperance regions. There will be on-rotation work to deliver telehealth consultations and cover emergency support services to regional and remote patients for the Goldfields-Esperance region.
