Job description

An opportunity exists for full time orthoptists to join the Queensland Health multidisciplinary ophthalmology team based at Caloundra Health Service on the Sunshine Coast. The Sunshine Coast is in close proximity to Brisbane, and offers a desirable, relaxed lifestyle with beautiful beaches and hinterland to explore. The role presents the opportunity to work in tertiary hospital service alongside a multidisciplinary team of orthoptists, ophthalmologists, nurses and an optometrist. The caseload is varied, with ophthalmologists subspecialising in areas such as paediatrics, neuro-ophthalmology, vitreo-retina, oculoplastics and glaucoma, in addition to general ophthalmology services including cataracts. New Graduates are welcome to apply for these roles.

Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south to Gympie in the north.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate competent knowledge, expertise and skill in the provision of orthoptic services commensurate with level of experience in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, existing evidence-based practice and established clinical protocols. For complex or novel cases, you will seek direction from clinical seniors as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and patient records in line with Departmental, Unit and Health Service procedures, and contribute to the maintenance of accurate and timely information systems (statistics collection, quality data).
  • Ensure that time spent across clinical and non-clinical work is in keeping with assigned requirements.
  • Participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient/client care, including the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within the work environment.
Remuneration value up to $128 706 p.a., comprising salary between $74 747 - $112 805 p.a., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (HP3).
