About the opportunity
The Paid Media Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and optimising paid marketing campaigns across various platforms to drive brand awareness, traffic, conversions, and growth in market segments. This role is the subject matter expert for Paid Media planning and execution in the Marketing and Communications department and will collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute data-driven strategies that maximise our ROI and deliver effective campaigns.
In this role you will be responsible for the effective management of timeframes and delivery and performance of advertising campaigns in collaboration with internal campaign owners and the University's media agency.
Working closely with colleagues in the Digital Performance and wider Marketing and Communications team, you will ensure that all paid campaigns have clear objectives, are aligned with a clear campaign journey and have the right tracking and measurement in place to optimise performance.
Your key responsibilities will be to
- manage the relationship with the media agency, ensuring the partnership is strong and delivers value and results
- collaborate with the campaign business owners to define Paid Media objectives, measures and strategies aligned with overall business goals
- work with the media agency to understand competitor activity, set benchmarks and stay ahead of the latest advertising trends
- leverage SEO insights to inform paid search strategies and ensure campaigns deliver a frictionless user experience beyond the ad click
- monitor campaign performance, analyse key metrics, and adjust strategies to maximise ROI and achieve KPIs.
- develop an audience first approach to Paid Media and support the University's evolution from product to audience-based strategy
- manage billing, invoicing, budgets and agency resourcing.
About you
- experience developing advertising plans and strategies in a similar role within a large, complex organisation or extensive agency experience across multiple clients
- proven knowledge and expertise in online acquisition strategy across the various stages of the marketing funnel, including leveraging customer insights to drive growth
- experience in identifying and building audiences for optimal targeting
- demonstrated proficiency with the analytics and paid advertising components of key digital channels including Google SEM and Display, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube
- strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions
- excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work well across teams
- working knowledge of Paid Media platforms (Google Ads, FB Ads etc) setup and configuration, such as tagging, tracking and audience building.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
