About the role
Yarra Ranges Council is seeking a dedicated and proactive individual to join our Planning & Building Department as a Para-Planning Officer. The Para Planner will be responsible for assisting in the provision of town planning services on statutory planning matters including; assisting with providing correct planning advice to the community. Key tasks in the role include; providing a high level of customer service, in supporting the community with their planning inquiries, over the phone and face to face at the Lilydale Office. Providing pre planning advice to general planning request, reviewing and assessing Extensions of Times and Secondary Consent application. The role includes assisting the planning officers in the assessment of development and subdivision applications.
The successful candidate will contribute to delivering quality outcomes for the community by assisting in various planning functions including:
- Efficient and effective operations of the para-planning, administrative and customer service function for the unit in accordance with statutory legislation and Council’s planning scheme.
- Strong customer focus in dialogue and dealings with public, developers, Council and Government Departments. A helpful proactive manner in liaison with customers is essential.
- Provide professional and timely support in assisting with the delivery and management of projects, report writing, record keeping and correspondence.
- Working collaboratively across the organisation, sharing knowledge and experiences. Identification of potential opportunities for innovation and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Council’s operations.
What you’ll bring to our team
- A tertiary qualification in town planning or a related field, or working towards a tertiary qualification in town planning or a related field
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when necessary.

- Full-time, permanent position
- Salary between $76,054 and $88,544 (Band 5) per annum, plus 11% superannuation.
