About the Role

**This a Fixed Term Position until 30th June 2025**

The Planner works collaboratively to assist with delivering the Victorian Government's planning strategies, priorities and initiatives for metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, including protecting the sustainability and agricultural viability of peri-urban areas covering Victoria's distinctive areas and landscapes, and Melbourne's green wedges.

The role is part of a broader team delivering key policy commitments and complex integrated strategic land use planning projects. It works in partnership with Traditional Owners and collaboratively across government, with the private sector and other key stakeholders. This position will require a motivated individual with strong organisational and communication skills, a focus on accuracy and proficiency, and the ability to work effectively as a team member.

Provide planning support for various projects, policies, and stakeholder relationships, assisting in meeting key objectives and addressing issues. Offer advice on issues, options, and solutions, influencing and negotiating for successful outcomes. Develop effective partnerships and networks, enhance team effectiveness through knowledge sharing, and contribute to a collaborative workplace culture. Work flexibly across the business to deliver priorities, practicing cultural safety to create an inclusive environment.

Key Selection Criteria

The ability to execute tasks according to a plan, prioritize effectively, and maintain accurate project records. Communicate clearly and logically, using appropriate content for the audience. Resolve problems using policy guidelines or seek guidance when necessary. Understand and apply policies to guide work, continuously seek to improve policy knowledge, and support business case development.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Planning, Environment, Social Sciences, Economics or related discipline (or working towards one) is required.
  • Proven capability as a self-starter and an ability to effectively undertake work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of the Victoria Planning Provisions and the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
  • An understanding of government policies and programs with an emphasis on the natural and built environment.
