Pastoral Outreach Worker / Community Chaplain
This role is an Anglicare initiative in partnership with St. Hilda's Anglican Church, Katoomba. This is a part-time (3 days per week) fixed-term position for 2 years.

As a Christian organisation, with a heritage of service spanning 160 years, we serve older people and those who are vulnerable or marginalised by providing a range of accommodation, care and community services. Anglicare Op Shops are at times a fast paced retail environment as well as a shopfront for community connection.
About St Hilda's Anglican Church:
St Hilda's Anglican Church is a growing church serving the diverse community of Katoomba and the Upper Blue Mountains. Situated in the heart of the town, our vision is to be a church that is opening our doors and hearts to our neighbours, walking with each other through the peaks and valleys of life and sharing the hope we have found in Jesus.
About the role:
Our Community Chaplains / Pastoral Outreach Workers provide valuable support and outreach to the local community. Our focus is - 'providing Help for today and Hope for tomorrow'.
The role…
- Has a strong outward focus into the local community. Through the local Anglicare shop and other community connections the chaplain / outreach worker will seek to bless individuals by identifying ways to meet their physical, emotional and social needs.
- Provides an opportunity to meet spiritual needs by drawing individuals to Christ and into the community of faith.
About our Community Chaplains / Pastoral Outreach Workers...
The role requires a person with a strong Christian faith and a capacity to build relationships, address needs, engage constructively with other agencies involved in the local community and develop the capacity of the person(s) to live a full life. The Chaplain / Pastoral Outreach Worker will be capable and committed to sharing the gospel with people.
This position will suit a person of compassion and resilience, who has significant pastoral experience and the ability to build relationships and engage with various community network groups. You must be a highly motivated and caring person with the ability to set clear boundaries.
The successful applicant will be able to communicate the Christian message clearly through conversations and able to work in a context of great social need. They will need to be aligned with the mission and values of both Anglicare and St Hilda's Anglican Church, Katoomba.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Completed theological studies (desirable but not essential)
- Experience in social service or community development (highly desirable)
- Ability to clearly communicate with a wide range of people
- Proven experience in ministry and pastoral care
- Strong communication and relationship building skills.
