We are seeking P02 - Pasture Agronomist for the position for the new Animal Science feed base program with Meat and Livestock Australia for a state-wide research and extension program, targeting the adoption and best-practice-management of sown and native pastures in Queensland.
About the Role:
- Temporary Contractor role (initial term of 3 years with options for further 2-year extensions to 2029).
- Standard hours: Approximately 36:15 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Regular travel away from the office, including extended periods across regional and remote Queensland (Travel expenses are covered via reimbursement).
- Occasional after-hours and weekend work may be required.
PO2 Pasture Agronomist:
- Collaborate with the department's scientists and beef extension officers for the Queensland Pasture Resilience Program.
- Conduct field-based research on land restoration, sown pasture systems, animal performance, and pasture dieback management.
- Support extension activities to promote improved grazing land management practices.
- Contribute to case studies showcasing successful land management.
- Australian bachelor's degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Agricultural/Applied or Environmental Science from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Willingness to receive Q-fever vaccination or provide proof of prior immunity to Q-fever.
- Current 'C' class driver's license.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in Queensland's grazing lands, including regular overnight travel.
- Fieldwork may be required during the summer heat for trial maintenance and recordings.
Desirable:
- Agricultural extension experience.
- Knowledge of field-based sown pasture production research methodologies.
- Experience in building successful relationships with land managers.
- Knowledge of, or ability to quickly acquire, sown pasture systems relevant to beef production in Queensland.
