About the role:
We are on the hunt for a part-time Pasture Agronomist. You will be conducting field-based research and collaborating with departmental staff to assist in the delivery of the Queensland Pasture Resilience Program (QPRP).
Duties:
Under guidance and supervision of the leadership team:
- Support the planning, organising and conduct of research including liaising with internal and external stakeholders, collecting and processing samples and basic maintenance of project equipment (i.e. laboratory equipment, spraying equipment, tractors etc.)
- Contribute to analysis, reporting and publishing outcomes of field based on-farm research and trials including maintaining databases, producing figures/tables and diagrams and writing reports for departmental and funding body publications
- Deliver activities to improve management of sown pastures, manage pasture dieback and encourage the adoption of pasture legumes by documenting case studies, delivering workshops, hosting field days and offering support to farmers and responding to their enquiries about the QPRP
- Provide technical information and research results to graziers, farm advisors and colleagues
- Participate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams with research scientists from both public and private sectors while working as part of the sown pasture team
Skills and experience:
- Relevant tertiary education (AQF 7 or equivalent) in Agricultural Science/Applied Science/Environmental Science
- Must have current Q Fever immunisation with supporting documentation or the willingness to obtain
- Willingness to work in the field and embrace the physical nature of this work and the Queensland weather
- Current C class "manual" drivers licence and a clean driving record
- Current (within 6 months) Criminal History Check or the ability to obtain
- Ability to undertake frequent over-night travel to conduct field work and engage with industry
- Previous experience with sown pastures in a livestock discipline

- Flexible working arrangement, 43.5 hours fortnightly (6 days)
- Additional penalties for work completed on Saturdays & Sundays
- 12 month contract with potential for extension
