Pattern Maker & Design Assistant

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Sydney based Pattern Maker & Design assistant to work closely with our Creative Director.

From vision to creation, each step of the process is done within the team in Sydney to ensure the upmost quality & dedication to a more sustainable future. 

About the role 

Based in our Sydney office, the Pattern maker & Design assistant will report directly to the Creative Director in assisting the creation of collection ranges from researching ideas to completing final samples. The successful candidate should be highly organised and motivated in supporting the full development process from start to finish.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Pattern making & garment tech

• Experienced pattern making skills.
• Ability to pattern make from existing blocks or mannequin drapes.
• Finalise all patterns in line with production schedules.
• Perform pattern alterations and final production fittings.
• Have extensive knowledge in the most cost-effective method of garment construction.
• Produce technical drawings.
• Prepare tech packs for all suppliers and liaise with key dedicated contacts.
• Create patterns from approved illustrations or existing patterns.
• Perform any task related to the development and production of the samples.
• Ensure timely execution of Design Calendar per collection
• Cut samples with precision and co-ordinate with the machinist time effectively.
• Have sewing skills for when necessary.
• Participate in quality control for PP samples with Sydney manufacturers.

Sourcing & Designing 

• Work closely with the Creative Director to plan and produce collections.
• Seasonal trend research and source design and material ideas for visual boards.
• A genuine interest in trends and fashion brands.
• Present visual board and ideas to Creative Director.
• Ability to illustrate design sketches for visual boards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years industry experience in pattern making OR 3+ years completion in a pattern making course.
• Strong eye for detail and accuracy.
• High level of knowledge for garment construction.
• A high level of organisation and ability to multi-task.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in garment fittings.
• Advanced use and understanding of illustrator and photoshop.
• A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• The ability to problem solve and take initiative. 
• Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous, but not essential.
• A portfolio with style aligned to Arcina Ori identity
