William Carey Christian School is seeking a highly organised Payroll Officer to join our Accounts Team to oversee payroll operations of the School. This is a part-time role, 3 days per week (Monday-Wednesday). The position will commence Term 3, 2024.

Primary Position Objectives:
The Payroll Officer will be highly organised and bring their vast experience to oversee the complete payroll operations of the School. This pivotal role requires exceptional competence in handling precise and complex payroll calculations, as well as promptly addressing staff queries related to payroll. The position requires a deep understanding of and ability to successfully interpret the school’s enterprise agreements, and thorough knowledge of payroll regulations, including superannuation requirements and various types of leave entitlements.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Payroll Officer will bring several years of proven payroll experience, contributing significantly to and being a valuable member of our Finance and Accounts team.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- General ledger and working paper reconciliations, including calculation and processing of month-end journals.
- Preparing end to end fortnightly payroll process.
- Set up new staff onto Payroll Software from information provided after new staff induction.
- Handle staff changes and salary adjustments.
- Process leave forms and casual timesheets.
- Data entry fortnightly Out Of School Hours timesheet spreadsheet.
- Reconcile salaries balancing worksheet on a fortnightly basis.
- Lodgement of fortnightly Single Touch Payroll submission.
- Liaise with Salary Packaging external provider and update payroll deductions accordingly.
- Update IEU payroll deductions on an annual basis.
- Be familiar with all payroll aspects of the current industrial instrument, Multi-enterprise Agreement (MEA).
- Familiarity with LSL Act rules and calculation of Long Service Leave balances.
- Manage the staff electronic sign-on database and follow up outstanding sign-on and leave forms.
- Oversee reconciliation of staff on Paid Parental Leave and correspondence with Centrelink. • Manage and respond to staff related payroll queries.
- Reconcile final payroll payments upon staff departure including leave entitlements.
- Filing of leave forms and casual timesheets in staff files. **
** Noting the school is in the process of migrating from a partially paper-based payroll system to a fully online HR/Payroll platform over the next 6 months. The Payroll Officer will be a key stakeholder in championing this change.
