Physiotherapy Assistant

About the role

Mater Health has a variety of positions for a qualified assistant to join the Physiotherapy team based at our South Brisbane campus. Physiotherapy Assistants contribute to a multifaceted service encompassing all aspects of patient care within the four Mater Health Physiotherapy teams. These teams provide specialist services to inpatients and outpatients with acute and chronic health conditions in five Mater Health South Brisbane Hospitals.

This service is a 7-day a week service and will require flexibility to work weekday and weekend shifts. 

Salary range: $32.23 - $33.66 (OO3) per hour plus superannuation and salary packaging

What you will be doing

You will be joining a team of over one hundred remarkable people who service the physiotherapy/allied health needs of five Mater Brisbane Hospitals (Mater Hospital Brisbane, Mater Mothers’ Hospital, Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane Mater Private Hospital Rehabilitation and Mater Children’s Private Brisbane). We also provide outpatient services within the Allied Health Clinic (public outpatients) and Health & Wellness Clinic (private outpatients).

In addition to your clinical role, you will be able to take advantage of supported opportunities to be involved in education, project work and improvement activities.

Duties will include:

• Independently supervising treatment programs for patients, including individual treatments and classes under the direction of a physiotherapist (or occupational therapist in rehabilitation).
• Assisting with treatment interventions during Therapist-led sessions
• Assisting with the setup, monitoring and care of clinical equipment.
• Transporting of patients to and from the rehabilitation gym.
• Providing educational resources and assistive devices used for inpatient and outpatient services.
• Basic clerical duties, including resource ordering, maintenance requests and telehealth set up.
• Contributing to the provision of Allied Health Assistant student supervision
• Weekday and weekend service provision

About you

To be eligible for the Physiotherapy Assistant role, you will have:

• Attainment of a Certificate IV and/or Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively within the multi-professional team to provide quality services.
• Attributes that align with our Department Values including being solutions focused, displaying resilience but flexibility, and demonstrating a positive attitude in all encounters.
• Demonstrated initiative and the drive to provide the best support possible to the Physiotherapy team.

Desirable attributes include:

• Previous experience in a hospital environment as a Physiotherapy Assistant, particularly in an acute and/or subacute setting.
