Expand and share your expertise in strategic policy by joining the Association of Independent Schools of NSW (AISNSW) as a Policy and Compliance Consultant in the Office of the Chief Executive Portfolio.
We are seeking a full-time, experienced Policy and Compliance Consultant with exceptional oral and written communication skills to engage internally and externally to advocate on behalf of the Independent schools sector and provide advice to schools on a range of compliance matters.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
This role involves working collaboratively as part of a small team to support the Chief Executive and Associate Chief Executive: Policy represent and advocate for the independent school sector. The team also works closely with government agencies and key stakeholders on matters which impact independent schools.
This role also involves identifying emerging issues of relevance to the independent school sector, researching, and writing papers for the Executive, preparing advice to the sector and drafting submissions in consultation with member schools.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL YOU NEED?
- Tertiary qualification/s in a relevant discipline
- Up to 10 years experience, (approximately) in a similar role
- A background in public policy or related fields would be highly regarded
Note: Teaching qualifications or teaching experience is not a requirement for this role.
WHAT ARE YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES?
- Identifying current and emerging issues and developing well-informed strategic advice (such as briefs, correspondence, submissions, policy documents, reports and discussion papers) on complex issues within the education environment, undertaking consultation with relevant stakeholders within available timeframes.
- Working collaboratively within the Office of the Chief Executive across a range of projects, reporting to the Manager: Policy.
- Coordinating and overseeing AISNSW funding agreements with governments, including relevant engagement with government agencies as required.
- Fostering internal collegiality across teams by producing work that incorporates multiple views from across the organisation.
- Monitor the regulatory environment and provide guidance on school compliance matters.
- Supporting the implementation of various projects by undertaking planning, coordinating working groups and committees, drafting communications, correspondence, papers, and minutes and liaising with schools as needed.
- Any other duties as required.
WHAT SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES WILL YOU HAVE?
- High level analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding or willingness to develop an understanding of the legislative and educational context of independent schools.
- Capability to work as part of a team and across the organisation in a proactive manner.
- Ability to deal respectfully with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to scan a range of complex documents to identify the relevant issues and response required.
- Skilled in producing clear and concise written communications.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite, in particular Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
