An exciting opportunity exists for two Policy Officers to make valuable contributions to the development and implementation of strategic policy initiatives aimed at improving community preparedness to disasters in NSW.

  • Clerk Grade 7/8, base salary range ($106,025 - $117,363) plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

About the Agency
The NSW Reconstruction Authority (the Authority) is a statutory corporation within the Planning & Environment cluster. The Authority will improve how NSW plans for disasters and ensure that we recover from them faster.
To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters, the Authority will complete critical planning and preparation with communities, businesses and government. When disaster does strike, we will get recovery started swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts across agencies, communities and other stakeholders.

This role sits within the Preparedness Division, which ensures that communities are informed and supported to prepare for disasters and that agencies are coordinated and strategically aligned in their preparedness efforts. Enhancing the social cohesion and resilience of communities is foundational to the Division's activities.

The Preparedness Division is highly community-focused and determined to make quantifiable improvements to household and local community preparedness levels across NSW to minimise the impacts of disasters.

About the role
As Policy Officer within the Preparedness Division, you are responsible for providing timely policy advice and project management of disaster and community preparedness initiatives. The role will require you to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and undertake policy research to develop a systemic approach to disaster preparedness in NSW.

Amongst other things, the role will involve:

  • contributing to all-of-government policies for managing the impact of disasters
  • supporting internal and external consultation efforts to enhance clarity and efficiency of preparedness accountabilities
  • developing a thorough evidence-base for NSW Government preparedness policies and initiatives
  • maintaining expert knowledge of global best-practice preparedness approaches to provide high-quality analysis and advice to executives and government officials.

  • a sound understanding of working with government, including policy development experience
  • the ability to undertake research and analysis and provide high-quality briefings to inform decision making
  • excellent interpersonal, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills.

Joining our team with a rewarding job in a community-driven agency is just the start. The Authority also offers:

  • Flexible working practices
  • Contemporary workspaces and technology
  • Access to learning and development opportunities
  • Employee assistance and wellbeing program (with a cool app)
  • Workforce that values inclusion
  • Competitive pay and conditions (including flex-time)
  • Fitness Passport with a choice of 200+ gyms and pools across NSW
