This opportunity is to join our client based in Adelaide on a permanent basis, working fulltime Monday to Friday up to 38 hours per week.
On behalf of our client in Adelaide, we are seeking a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner to deliver evidence-based strategies and person-centred support to address the need of clients with disability and underlying causes of behaviours of concern. The Behaviour Support Practitioner will undertake functional behaviour assessments and develop Behaviour Support plans with the aim of reducing the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimise the use of restrictive practices.
Key Responsibilities:
DELIVERING BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT SERVICES
- Accept referrals and engage NDIS participants
- Promote the physical and emotional well-being of people with disabilities
- Undertake developmental and functional behavioural assessment
- Develop and implement Positive Behaviour Support programs (with/without restrictive practices)
- Teach functional life skills including social, communication, self-care, daily living, recreation, and employment
- Assist people with a disability to set and attain individual goals
- Work and liaise with families, service providers, allied health professionals, and community members to enhance the choice, social inclusion and quality of life for people with disability
- Facilitate self-advocacy and / or advocate on behalf of people with disabilities
- Support individuals with disabilities to transition to access and maintain meaningful psychosocial, educational, and/or vocational experiences
- Help families, caregivers and individuals with disability understand the impact of disability on a person’s daily functioning
DEVELOPING POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT PLANS
- Develop individualised strategies for people with disability that are responsive to the person’s needs, in a way that reduces the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimises the use of restrictive practices
- Undertake functional behavioural assessments to develop Behaviour Support plans containing evidence-based, proactive strategies that meet the specific needs of the person displaying behaviour of concern
- Develop, oversee and ensure Behaviour Support plans meet both clinical and NDIS requirements in consultation with the person with disability, their family, carers and other relevant people and service providers who will be implementing the plan
- Focus on person-centred interventions to address the underlying causes of behaviours of concern or challenging behaviours, while safeguarding the dignity and quality of life of people with disability who require specialist Behaviour Support
- Plan and deliver Behaviour Support approaches that comply with the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework and OH&S legislation
- Follow up on reportable incidents that suggest there are unmet Behaviour Support needs and make recommendations for implementation to address accordingly
- Lodge Behaviour Support plans that contain regulated restrictive practices with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission Position Description
- Understand how policies and procedures support participants with Behaviour Support needs.
- Help NDIS participants, their families, other decision-makers and staff to understand the NDIS Commission’s Behaviour Support function
- Develop, monitor and action individualised risk plans to mitigate incidents and hazards
About You:
- Ability to positively influence participants and peers
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to manage challenges productively
- Exceptional professional integrity and ethics
- Experience in the disability sector is highly regarded
- Knowledge and experience working with clients with complex behavioural conditions
- Experience in the development of Positive Behaviour Support Plans
- Minimum Tertiary qualifications in any of the following: Developmental Education, Psychology, ABA, Counselling, Disability, Education, Mental health, Psychotherapy, Special Education or Social work
- Full professional membership associated with the above tertiary qualification or related field
- Current driver’s license and vehicle
Annual Salary - $110,000 plus super
