About the opportunity
The is the leading physics department in the country, with outstanding staff and students undertaking world-leading teaching and research. We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Industrial Ecology to work in the Integrated Sustainability Analysis (ISA) group in the field of Integrated Assessment Modelling (IAM), and to further develop the group's strategic collaborative ties to Chinese research institutions.
The ISA group is internationally known for developing leading-edge research and applications for environmental and broader sustainability issues, by bringing together expertise in environmental science, economics, energy, social science, ecology, climate change, water and waste technology, agriculture, education, engineering, computing, mathematics, atmospheric science and ocean dynamics, nuclear physics and dosimetry, and material science. The ISA group is led by Professor Manfred Lenzen.
Your key responsibilities will be to:

• demonstrate research excellence and publish original research on Integrated Assessment Modelling, using the MESSAGE IAM tool
• develop new and existing research collaborations within ISA, the Faculty of Science and the University of Sydney, as well as with industry and other universities, with a focus on the group's collaborator network in China
• develop your profile through conferences and seminars
• participate in research student supervision at the undergraduate and postgraduate level
• contribute to teaching of ISA's units of study
• contribute to a positive, supportive and inclusive research environment within the ISA team.

About you

• a PHD (or near completion) in Industrial Ecology or a related discipline
• a strong background in global input-output and trade modelling, big-data processing and analysis
• a demonstrated capacity in Integrated Assessment Modelling (IAM) coding and operation, ideally using the MESSAGE IAM tool
• prior experience in working with researchers from universities in China
• the skill to clearly express ideas and communicate within a team environment
• the ability to work independently on problems, and motivate junior members of the team
• a capability to see the bigger picture, and have a vision for the future development of the group.
