Post Doctoral Researcher - Beavis Laboratory
An opportunity exists immediately for a motivated and highly skilled post-doctoral scientist to join the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The position will be Fixed Term Salaried Full Time supervised by Assoc. Prof. Paul Beavis. In this project, the candidate will develop an approach to cancer treatment through engineering strategies designed to enhance chimeric antigen receptor T cell persistence. Ideal candidates will possess experience and skills in molecular biology, tissue culture and flow cytometry. Skills in CRISPR/Cas9 and generation of genetically engineered T cells, recombinant molecular biology and bioinformatics analysis are highly desirable.

Position Summary

Essential Requirements:
Experience in:
Molecular biology
Immunological assays
Cell culture
Flow cytometry
Gene-editing techniques
Mouse work
General laboratory duties
Preparing draft of papers for publishing work in scientific journals
Disseminating data at both national and international meetings
PhD, preferably in Cancer Immunotherapy, Immunology or cellular biology.
Motivation to make significant contribution to the field
Demonstrated ability to lead a research project independently
Desirable Requirements:
Generation of genetically modified cells
CRISPR/Cas9 editing
Immune cell metabolism
In vivo immunology experience
Bioinformatics analysis

4. Training of junior staff/students
  • Teaching of relevant techniques to new staff
  • Accurate recording of protocols to ensure reproducibility of experiments
5. Abides by OHS requirements
  • Complies with Infection Control policies and procedures 100% of the time
  • Completes incident reports 100% of the time and responds appropriately to OH&S incidents
  • Attends Health & Safety training on emergency procedures annually and is capable of identifying emergency equipment in place
  • Follows established procedures
