The Opportunity
The People, Culture and Capability Directorate sits within the People and Corporate Services Division of the Department and provides expert advice and customer focused service in relation to all people related matters. The Directorate looks after our people and drives a high performing workplace with strong leadership, organisational capability, and a diverse and inclusive culture that exemplifies our departmental values.
We’re seeking a Principal Consultant, Employee Relations to join our Workforce Advisory Services team.
The Workforce Advisory Services team partners with business areas and ensures the delivery of effective human resource practices through providing specialised and expert advisory and consultancy services. This includes resolution of complex employee relation matters, involving but not limited to: medical incapacity, unsatisfactory performance, misconduct and tribunal matters.
About You
The Principal Consultant, Employee Relations will contribute to the development and implementation of an employee centric approach where optimum levels of workforce performance are sought by treating employees with respect and dignity, and focusing on employee empowerment, wellbeing and growth, while ensuring legislative and policy compliance.
Working directly with the People, Culture and Capability team; executive and senior management across the Department; other agencies; and internal and external stakeholders, the Principal Consultant, Employee Relations will:

  • Provide timely and accurate advice, recommendations, information, and support on sensitive and complex Employee Relations matters.
  • Demonstrate an approach that reflects a deep understanding of potential implications and risks to the department, showcasing a strategic and informed perspective in guiding decision-making processes and backed by high level research and analysis.
  • Ensure the implementation of best practices by offering expert advice on current discipline developments and issues within the department and the broader South Australian Public Sector.
  • Build and maintain professional networks through professional and productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Resolve difficult conversations constructively, present with credibility and use negotiating techniques to resolve complex issues.

Special Conditions and Requirements
A relevant degree and/or post graduate qualification in a relevant field is desirable for the role.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a National Police Check prior to employment with the Department. Additional employment checks may be required relevant to the role being undertaken as outlined in the role statement.
Tenure of Vacancy
Temporary appointment up to 12 months.
Remuneration
ASO7 - $106,512 to $115,137 per annum.
