About the Role

This Principal role is required to deliver in-depth approvals expertise for Minerals Australia Copper South Australia operations to successfully deliver State and Federal statutory approvals, to enable business continuity and growth. Key to this role will be stakeholder engagement across all levels of Government, internal engagement with the various operational units and Functions supporting the Copper South Australia operations in order to secure the statutory approvals required to enable copper production growth.

The role will be Adelaide based working a 5/2 roster with occasional travel to site (as may be required). The role is a permanent opportunity within the Land, Access & Approvals Team.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for development of approvals strategy and maintaining land access to support operations and enable growth within our jurisdictions;
  • Be a key interface between BHP (Projects, Planning Technical and Environment, Legal, Indigenous Engagement Corporate Affairs, Government Relations) and the Federal and State Government agencies responsible for mining and Development approvals;
  • Deliver Federal and State approvals for the operations including negotiating approval conditions on behalf of BHP with senior government agencies and regulators;
  • Monitor performance, policy and legislative changes, as well as industry performance and benchmarks;
  • Analyse data and define improvements to Land, Access and Approvals structures, processes and systems against BHP global policy and legal obligations;
  • Build functional capability to develop and sustain functional excellence, including the delivery of Approvals advise to Projects, Legal, Corporate Affairs, Exploration and Government Relations;
  • Develop effective communication processes to maintain and motivate employees, consultants and contractors ensuring they work to achieve the best interest of Copper South Australia and are aware of and strive for the goals of the team;
  • Build relationships with other departments and employees to ensure problems are addressed and resolved effectively in a timely manner.
About You
  • Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm's way
  • Adhere to and demonstrate BHP Charter Values.
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Significant and relevant industry experience including the delivery of approvals for major projects requiring multi discipline impact assessments and preparation of Environmental Impact Statements
  • Demonstrated ability to reliably deliver team results and meet deadlines
  • Considerable experience in project/program management
  • Communication skills that allow you be at ease working with a diverse range of senior internal and external stakeholders
  • In-depth understanding of the application of Federal and State approval requirements, processes and standards,
  • Advanced computer literacy and competent with complex data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously
