The Principal Consultant, Health & Safety is responsible to lead the development, implementation support, monitoring and continual improvement of the QAS Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS), to support the QAS to achieve the objectives of the QAS Strategy 2022-2027.The role is responsible for providing supervision of the Senior Consultant, Health & Safety and professional leadership for the Regional Health & Safety Advisors, delivering expert advice and support to management and staff across the QAS in relation to a range of health and safety matters. The role will ensure the achievement of strategic objectives for the QAS through the development and implementation of workplace health and safety (WHS) systems, policies and procedures and the delivery of high level reporting and analysis of relevant organisational governance, assurance and performance data.

Whilst not mandatory, a tertiary or postgraduate qualification in Health and Safety, Ergonomics or Safety Science (or working towards), will be highly regarded.

Demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of contemporary evidence and practice and the legislative framework governing workplace health and safety and workers' compensation in Queensland, and the proven ability to apply that knowledge to develop and implement effective workplace health and safety management systems and programs in a statewide organisation.
Proven ability to drive the implementation of organisational plans, governance, risk management and interventions in order to achieve health and safety and injury management performance excellence and best practice.
Demonstrated highly developed conceptual, problem solving and analytical skills including the proven ability to report on and analyse performance data from a variety of sources, to drive performance improvement.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to effectively engage, collaborate, influence, resolve conflict and innovate within an internal network of health and safety professionals, as well as with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, to facilitate their cooperation and support to achieve desired outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and organise work to achieve goals and meet deadlines, including dealing with competing demands and managing multiple projects and tasks in a complex environment.
