The Role and our Branch

The System and School Performance Directorate is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant - School Performance located in the School Performance branch.

The successful applicant will manage student-level and school-level profile and performance data accessed by the public (restricted) and Department staff via Schools Online. This data is used to provide high quality statistical analyses to support school accountability processes and to develop a statistical evidence-base for strategic decision-making.  The successful applicant will be required to devise innovative, contemporary ways of visualising and reporting data.

As the Principal ConsultantSchool Performance, you will establish and maintain collaborative working relationships and effective communication networks with school and corporate clients. You will liaise with the Department’s Information and Communication Technology services to ensure the maintenance and enhancement of online applications managed by the branch, in particular, Schools Online.

The School Performance Branch has established a reputation for high quality data support for schools, business areas and Corporate Executive, ensuring that all school and student data managed and reported is accurate, accessible, timely and consistent. The branch is customer focused, collaborative and encourages innovative approaches to delivering services.

  1. Demonstrated highly developed skills in data management, statistical analysis and the presentation and reporting of data and other information.
  2. Demonstrated highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including extensive experience in preparing reports and delivering professional learning.
  3. Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise with and provide advice on School Performance to senior officers and a diverse range of internal and external groups and individuals.
  4. Demonstrated highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative thinking in identifying and solving problems.
  5. Demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues related to school self-assessment, planning, reporting and review.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy.
