We are currently recruiting for two Principal Engineer positions in our Electrical Services & Road Lighting and Traffic Signal Technologies teams. These teams are responsible for developing and maintaining policy, technical specification, manuals, and evaluation and certification for electrical infrastructure, road lighting, traffic signal and related products, and for staying abreast of related technologies and innovations.

Key duties

  • Provide expert traffic control system (including traffic signal controller hardware and software), electronics and electrical engineering advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop technical policies, standards and guidelines for ITS and Electrical Services Infrastructure which support the implementation of inter-operable road and transport based ITS applications.
  • Manage and participate in multi-disciplinary project teams delivering ITS and traffic management projects, including contract management, to ensure that projects are delivered within time, cost and quality dimensions to internal and external clients.
  • Represent the department and present papers at State and National level external committees and forums on electrical infrastructure, traffic control systems and ITS.
  • Perform research and development activities in a range of technologies that will further develop ITS products.
  • Contribute to strategic and business planning processes.

Mandatory qualifications

  • Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)* in one of the following areas of engineering:
  • Electrical - Information, Telecommunications and Electronics or
  • Mechatronics.
  • Current holder of C class driver's licence.
  • Intrastate and interstate travel.
  • Criminal history screening will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.

  • Inspires and sustains team cohesion, engagement and performance by focusing the teams on specific and measurable short- and long-term goals.
  • Supports and encourages effective teamwork by fostering a positive working which exemplifies professionalism in performance, integrity and respect for people while building team capability by sharing learning and mentoring and coaching other staff.
