About the role
Join Ipswich City Council’s Team as a Principal Engineer in Transport and Traffic!
Are you ready to take on a dynamic role where you can make a real impact on your community's transport network? Reporting directly to the Team Leader (Transport and Traffic), the Principal Engineer will lead high-level traffic programs and projects, overseeing Council's traffic management activities, Traffic Operations, and road safety initiatives. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Council's transport network both now and in the future.
As a leader in this role, you will have the opportunity to manage a talented team of five traffic and transport professionals, some of whom are seasoned experts within the council. Your responsibilities
- Coordinate Council's traffic management activities for safe and efficient transport network operation.
- Analyse road infrastructure for safety improvements and traffic efficiency.
- Manage City's Intelligent Transport Systems network.
- Implement Road Safety Audit Program for targeted safety enhancements.
- Direct local traffic improvement schemes and safety audits.
- Address public and Councillor requests on traffic management and road safety.
- Implement road safety, traffic management, and parking policies.
- Provide input on traffic management and road safety policies.
- Identify transport projects in Council's Capital Portfolio of Works.
- Build relationships with Government agencies and stakeholders in Traffic Operations.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Extensive experience in traffic engineering, including local government experience.
- Current Queensland "C" class driver's license.
- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) status.
- Substantial expertise and experience in traffic engineering.
- High-level skills in providing authoritative advice on traffic engineering and road safety matters.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, scope, and direct traffic engineering projects, including procurement and supervision of consultants and technical staff
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, conduct complex research and evaluation, and think strategically
- Prior experience or the ability to manage a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for fostering strategic relationships, stakeholder consultation, and negotiation to achieve desired outcomes
