The Principal Executive Officer to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Parole Board Queensland Secretariat plays a significant role by providing operational assurance and high-level advice on matters relating to the Board and Secretariat. In addition, the Principal Executive Officer will draw upon an extensive knowledge of the Parole Board Queensland Secretariat not only in its role within the Parole Board Queensland and Queensland Corrective Services but also the broader criminal justice system to analyse, problem solve and report on matters of strategic risk.
Within the context of the role responsibilities described above under ‘About the role', the ideal applicant will be someone who can competitively demonstrate their knowledge, skills and experiences and their suitability against the Leadership competencies for Queensland (Team Leader): Vision, Results and Accountability in the context of the essential requirements for this role:
• Extensive knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of high-level information on issues across QCS, particularly relating to the Parole Board Queensland and Secretariat.
• The ability to effectively assess and propose resolutions for complex matters which may arise.
• Ability to review a high volume of sensitive and complex correspondence and information and provide comprehensive analysis to inform decision making.
• Ability to build and maintain positive and productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
• An understanding of the structure, objectives and strategic vision of the Parole Board Queensland and Secretariat and its relationship with QCS and other organisations and agencies.
• Interpersonal skills for negotiating with internal and external stakeholders who often have competing interests, on sensitive and complex issues.
• Skills and experience in the preparation of reports and executive documentation within a government framework, with demonstrated professional writing abilities.
• Detailed and current knowledge of Queensland Government and QCS policies and procedures, particularly relating to Parole Board Queensland and Secretariat, as well as a strong knowledge of relevant legislative and statutory requirements.
• Communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills for liaising with staff at all levels, to negotiate service delivery outcomes, priorities, deadlines, and other relevant matters.
• Ability to work within an environment with high demand and strict deadlines and respect the confidentiality of the material exposed to on a daily basis.
• Organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, coordinate activities and meet deadlines.
The position does not have mandatory qualifications, however, tertiary qualifications in a correctional practice/administration and/criminal justice is highly desirable.
