Job description
In this role you will:
- Provide authoritative legal advice and representation (both written and oral) and manage the progression of legal files in relation to parole board applications and suspension matters, including No Body No Parole, Restricted Prisoner and judicial review matters, which may involve contentious issues, often of a complex and sensitive nature, the subject of litigation or under consideration by the President, Minister, Commissioner, and other senior officers.- Prepare timely advice, reports, correspondence and briefing notes on legal issues including statutory interpretation in relation to Parole Board Queensland (PBQ) activities and the law reform initiatives of external agencies.- Liaise with Crown Law and external legal service providers to ensure a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to the provision of legal services involving PBQ.- Undertake legal research, analysis, review and evaluation to ensure PBQ's activities, including its operations and procedures, satisfy public sector standards for accountability and effectiveness.- Provide management support including directly supervising and mentoring other Legal Officers, managing the appropriate allocation of work and monitoring timeframes in the delivery of legal services and contribute to the strengthening of capabilities of QCS (PBQ) staff in legal issues.- Assist the Director to identify and make recommendations to the Secretariat leadership team and the Senior Board Members on trends, risks and future opportunities in contemporary and emerging legal issues affecting PBQ.
