About This Opportunity
The Principal Program Officer, Energy Management is responsible for the commercial interface between UQ’s energy assets and the broader commercial markets (electricity, gas, carbon, or fuel). This role is multi-faceted and spans from negotiations with external energy suppliers, to managing internal customers and supporting energy efficiency initiatives. Proactively translate UQ’s broad technical knowledge into actionable commercial outcomes that benefit the UQ property portfolio.
Key responsibilities will include:
Oversee UQ's extensive energy contracts, including large wholesale (140GWh) and small site contracts, managing NMI metering and tenant cost recovery.
Manage the day-to-day account management and energy procurement activities (i.e., Energy, Gas, and LPG).
Conduct contract reviews and provide input (including key data in clear graphical dashboards).
Coordinate with the third-party to automate the Utilities Databases to parse invoice data and manage invoice archiving.
Conduct bill verification and validation of UQ energy accounts. This includes the reconciliation of spreadsheets to agree energy price with retailer and find ways to automate the process.
Create and validate LGCs (Large scale Generation Certificates) for all UQ CER (Clean Energy Regulator) registered renewable power plants.
Use large datasets to convince disparate departments to support energy efficiency and provide compelling graphical dashboards to motivate UQ personnel with clear energy density KPIs.
Manage a casual team, overseeing tasks such as data entry and analysis.
This is a full-time, continuing position.
At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $94,754.55 - $103,180.96, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $110,862.82 - $120,721.72 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.
About You
An undergraduate degree in business, finance, or a technical field and at least 4 years of experience in a relevant industry. Exposure to the electricity industry preferred. MBA preferred (especially if combined with a technical degree)
Proven experience or knowledge of the NEM and associated energy markets
Demonstratable fluency in Excel and Power BI /Tableau/Domo integrated dashboards suitable for executive review and discussion.
Proven analytical skills and proficiency in energy modelling software preferred.
Demonstrated experienced in applying industry knowledge of energy procurement strategies, energy efficiency, technical operating characteristics, and trading/bidding behaviours in real world commercial applications.
Familiarity with local, state, and federal energy efficiency regulations and incentives.
Demonstrated experience presenting data and communicating effectively with a variety of stakeholders with differing levels of technical capability.
