Principal Project Manager - Hume Central

Reporting to the Manager Strategic Projects and Places, Hume City Council is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee delivery of a strategic program of work in Broadmeadows.

Hume Central is a major revitalisation project which aims to transform the land around the Broadmeadows Town Hall, Global Learning Centre, Council Offices, and Centrelink into a vibrant and active town centre for people to visit, work, learn and connect.

What you'll be doing:

• Lead the planning and delivery of transformational projects including effective project planning, tracking and reporting mechanisms are developed and implemented that meet the needs of corporate reporting requirements to the CEO, Councillors and other key stakeholders
• Develop strong partnerships internally across the organisation and externally with stakeholders and community to foster an integrated approach to decision making regarding major projects and other significant planning, property and development matters
• Lead high-quality consultation and engagement with stakeholders and community required to inform major project design and delivery
• Provide leadership and expertise in relation to project feasibility and delivery, including project formulation, the development of consultant and design briefs, management of subsequent engagements and as necessary, conflict and issue resolution
• Lead feasibility studies, master planning, schematic and concept design, design development, tender documentation, procurement and reporting under Council's Project Management Framework.

The skills and experience you'll bring to the role:

• Specialist knowledge and demonstrated experience in leading project delivery, with strong expertise in portfolio and project management, including development and oversight of project management plans and budgets, preferably from within or for the public sector
• A highly developed specialist knowledge of planning, legislation and policy requirements associated with the role will be critical, as will a sound understanding of the political context and the ability to develop strong relationships with all key political stakeholders
• Tertiary qualifications are expected in project management, urban design, town planning, recreational planning, engineering or a relevant discipline, with significant and diverse experience in both operational areas and leadership and demonstrated leadership qualities, developed within a relevant multi-disciplined environment
• Candidates will be motivated to drive change and maintain a high standard of personal and professional integrity, with demonstrable commercial acumen and the ability to work successfully in a political environment positioning the incumbents well for success in these highly rewarding and impactful roles. Above all, candidates will need to be highly effective in working collaboratively and sensitively to deliver outcomes in a dynamic, complex environment
• Proven ability to concurrently manage multiple projects on time, to budget and to client satisfaction within a structured reporting framework
