The Role

Design Brisbane within the City Planning and Economic Development branch is the centre of excellence for design in Council. Design Brisbane champions design policy, advice, innovation, PUBLIC ART, placemaking and design review to shape a city-wide framework that recognises the value of quality art and design in Brisbane. The team is responsible for the development, facilitation and implementation of the urban design agenda for the city. It also helps plan for infrastructure to support growth and create a more diversified economy while continuing to protect our city's enviable way of life.

This is specialist senior position requiring applications by candidates with a high-level understanding of contemporary art and contemporary issues with a focus on art in the public realm, and specially the built environment. The role will be responsible for the vision and planning of Council’s PUBLIC ART programming, project delivery ensuring compliance of PUBLIC ART conditions specified in development applications, providing strategic specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders, complete stakeholder management, and strengthening partnerships. As this is a senior position in the team, you will use your knowledge on arts practices and the deliverables of Council’s PUBLIC ART projects and programs to support and guide other team members.

This is full time position that requires a strong dedication and commitment to this role, the team and the future direction of Public Art in Brisbane.

To be successful you will have:

  • proven track record of high achievement in project managing PUBLIC ART projects for open space and the built environment, and collections
  • proven track record of high achievement in the planning, implementation and management of innovative and effective art policy and practices, access and partnership programs, with an understanding of the public realm
  • well-developed skills in consultation, negotiation, networking, and communication including with external organisations, the arts industry
  • demonstrated high level experience in project planning and management including demonstrated project management skills; including a proven ability to plan, initiate and oversee multiple concurrent projects to successful delivery and sign-off.
