A bit about the role

This role sits in the City and Asset Planning Management team as part of the City Planning and Infrastructure division which plans, designs, builds and maintains the City for our growing community.

You will lead Open Space and recreation planning activities to address the current and future Open Space and recreational needs of the City of Casey in a professional, collective and innovative manner

This role will provide strategic direction and develop policy, service levels and standards to create high quality Open Space, sport and recreation facilities for the City of Casey.

What you’ll deliver

• Lead and manage innovative Open Space, paths, trails, sport and recreation facility planning and capital works planning and delivery.
• Provide high level leadership and work collectively with all areas of Council and external organisations.
• Develop, review and coordinate assessment and analysis of community need and demand for Open Space relating to policies, strategies, master plans, precinct structure plans, funding submissions.
• Build and maintain effective relationships across organisational boundaries.
• Actively advocate for and seek out opportunities to achieve shared outcomes.
• Proactively seek community participation in planning, service development and decision making through appropriate engagement processes.
• Demonstrate a shared leadership approach and model behaviours consistent with the Council values.
• Mentor Senior Recreation and Open Space Planners, Infrastructure Planner and other officers.
• Role model and commit to living the shared Casey philosophy, so the organisation fulfils its purpose through the shared vision, shared values, shared strategy and shared leadership.

What you’ll bring

• Tertiary qualifications and/or a high level of skills and experience in Recreation and Open Space, planning, or a similar field.
• Leadership skills and experience leading projects in an ambiguous, evolving and complex environment.
• Substantial experience in policy, strategy, master plan development and implementation, project management and community engagement for Recreation and Open Space planning, or a related specialist field.
• Knowledge of the parks and leisure industry, growth area and established area planning, and capital works planning.
• Knowledge of and familiarity with principles and practices relating to budgeting and relevant accounting and financial procedures.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in submission preparation, report writing, project brief development and management of consultants.
• Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including: National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check
