ABOUT PERTH OFFICE
South32's corporate office is based in the heart of Perth's CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a permanent full-time position on a Monday-to-Friday basis. This role will preferably be based at our head office in Perth; however, other locations may be considered for the ideal candidate.
The Principal Safety will provide deep functional safety expertise and advice to operation-based and functional teams. It will lead the design and maintenance of our Safety Management System, including the global Safety Standards and the Systems.
Reporting to Senior Manager Safety and Security, other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
- Provide subject matter support on material safety management aspects to operational and functional teams to support compliance across multiple geographic locations with regulatory requirements, safety approvals and internal company standards
- Support the Stewardship program through in field stewardship verifications (2nd line) and work with the operational team/s to close-out identified gaps.
- Coordinate and drive the continuous improvement of the Global Safety Standard, and support the effective deployment of the Standard across the business.
- Analyse safety data, including event management and assurance outcomes, to identify improvement opportunities relating to safety standards, systems, processes and material risks.
- Participate in industry or regulatory body workgroups representing South32 Group and provide global benchmarking and leading practice support to the South32 Group around safety management, including human and organisational performance (HOP)
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Minimum of Seven years of combined operational, projects, technical and corporate experience.
- Extensive knowledge of health and safety management processes and technologies, relevant industry standards (e.g. ICMM) and regulatory requirements across the South32 business.
- Understanding of key safety concepts, including human and organisational performance (HOP).
- Proven experience in establishing and maintaining effective business-level health and safety management systems and delivering strategy, strategic projects, and change initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships (face-to-face and remote)
- Demonstrated ability to influence decisions and performance at both the operational and functional (including senior management) levels through effective written and verbal communication
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent tertiary level qualification (Science / Engineering / similar)
