We are looking for Process Technicians at our Yarwun Operation within the Day Team (Clarification).
As a Process Technician within the Day Team, you will have exposure to a broad range of equipment across several operating assets at our Yarwun Refinery. The primary accountability of the Day Team is to support the ongoing maintenance of several types of filters within the Bayer process, including liquor filters within Clarification, and disc and drum filters within our Hydrate area. The effectiveness of these filtration processes are integral to ensuring we produce alumina that is free from impurities, making this role an important part of our production team.
This role is a great opportunity for Process Technicians who are safety focused, able to work within a team and adapt to a constantly changing environment. The primary duties of the role include:
- Changing out filter cloths in various equipment in different stages of the Bayer process
- Additional duties to support ongoing maintenance of plant and equipment as required
- Operating mobile equipment which could include forklift, elevated work platform (EWP), overhead gantry crane and bobcat.
- Conducting routine inspections and housekeeping, including maintenance of a variety of hand tools
- Promoting a can-do attitude, working as a team, and using your own initiative
- Promoting and identifying HSE opportunities to improve behaviours, equipment and processes.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Proven experience working in a heavy industrial environment trade or process.
- Ability to work on roster.
- Demonstrated experience as an active team member with a willingness to contribute to a safe and effective workspace.
- Ability to work in a manually intensive environment.

Where you’ll be working
With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.
Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
