The Adelaide Production and Treatment Alliance is a partnership with SA Water and is responsible for operating and maintaining five water treatment plants and five wastewater treatment plants that deliver services to the Adelaide Metropolitan regions.

About the Role

The Water Treatment Plant Operator/Maintainer is responsible for the efficient and compliant operation and maintenance of the Happy Valley drinking water treatment plant, the largest drinking water treatment plant in South Australia. This plant provides clean, safe drinking water to around 50% of the Adelaide Metro area and is a vital part of the South Australian water infrastructure.

The role offers a variety of work both indoors and outdoors across a range of different types of equipment and processes meaning two days are rarely the same.

While it is desirable  to have experience in an industrial process operation role we are open to considering all candidates that can demonstrate a commitment to providing a service to the people of South Australia, coupled with a positive attitude and an ability and willingness to learn. A current A class electrical licence is required for this position with around 1/3 of the Operator/Maintainer role dedicated to electrical maintenance on the motors, drives and instruments that keep the plant running smoothly.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

On the job training and a robust support structure will assist you to fulfill the following responsibilities of this position:

• Operation and maintenance of the plants including routine tasks, preventive tasks, fault diagnosis and repair.
• Monitor and respond to plant issues including SCADA alarms.
• Monitor plants process and make necessary adjustments in conjunction with the Plant Supervisor, Engineer and Manager.
• Ensure that operational performance targets of the water treatment plants are efficiently achieved to ensure high quality safe drinking water production. 
• Ensure all duties are performed as per the agreed Work Method Statements, Procedures, Safe Work Instructions and the Permit to Work system.
• Monitor the plant work teams on site to ensure compliance to safety regulations, P&T Alliance Health and Safety procedures/guidelines and environmental procedures.
• Assist the team to develop and continually improve operational practices and procedures.
• Perform sampling and laboratory testing to confirm optimal operation of the plant and functionality of instrumentation.
• Participation in regular training to maintain skills and knowledge to the level required for plant operation.
• Perform general housekeeping of plant, equipment, buildings, structures, and surrounds.
• Identify optimisation opportunities and assist in developing plans to optimise plant and processes.

Essential Requirements

• A positive and engaging attitude and a willingness to learn.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and show initiative.
• Strong communication skills including good telephone manners and written skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work as a team member or independently.
• Current unrestricted driver’s licence.
• Required to work flexible hours to meet demands and be able to travel to metropolitan sites and places where necessary. 
• Required to be on call for nominated water treatment plants on a roster basis which includes additional payment and allowances.

Desirable Requirements

• Qualifications in an electrical trade (A class).
