The Role:
The Product Developer/Technologist is responsible for delivering approved product innovation and improvement projects on time. This role will involve working within a collaborative Sales & Marketing team and will include your own portfolio of projects. You will work on in-house projects (i.e. NPD, efficiency, renovations, optimisation) and work closely with customers, and internal stakeholders on a wide range of projects to meet seasonal campaigns and business objectives.
This role will see you liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to understand market trends, take on new briefs, ensure product compliance, troubleshoot any development/trial/production issues, and launch products on time, to specification with the aim of exceeding customer and consumer expectations.
- Identify trends in the market and provide insight to the business
- Develop new product concepts and packaging for customers
- Work with customers and sales agents to meet customer briefs
- Lead the internal stage gate process from concept to launch
- Formulate and scale up product concepts for production trials
- Conduct product validations and work with the QA team to develop specifications, bill of materials, and regulatory labelling requirements
- Renovation of exiting recipes as required
- Deliver cost savings on existing products
- Conduct sensory testing and analyse results to meet key objectives
- Work closely with all internal stakeholders
- Lead and participate in manufacturing problem solving activities
About you:
- Minimum 3-5 years working in FMCG product development / Technology in a food manufacturing environment (protein or short life chill products preferred, retail trade)
- 3+ years’ experience of managing formal Project Processes within a FMCG setting
- Risk management, performance metrics, budget setting and accountability
- Strong analytical skills to assess product quality and safety
- Understanding of market, costing, benchmarking, category marketing
- Excellent presentation and communication skills across both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to build strong collaborative relationship with all key stakeholders, customers, and suppliers
