The Production team are responsible for the scheduling and releasing of orders to the shop floor efficiently, effectively, and on time, ensuring production activities are coordinated for the seamless flow of goods from the creation of Bill of Material to internal delivery.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Support – Bill of Materials (BOM) Coordinator is responsible for the accurate and efficient creation, management, and maintenance of BOMs for production operations.
This position plays a crucial role in supporting production requirements by collaborating with various departments to gather necessary data, manage BOM databases, and facilitate seamless communication across teams.
Additionally, you will contribute to the development of automated BOM transfer systems and assist in drafting minor changes to drawings when necessary.
Some of Your Key Activities
- Assist in the creation and management of BOMs for all production work orders
- Maintain and update the BOM database to ensure accurate and complete product information.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, drafting, production, and procurement to gather necessary data for BOM creation.
- Regularly review and make revisions to BOMs in response to engineering changes or product updates. Ensure that all changes are accurately documented and communicated to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Work closely with the logistics and procurement teams to maintain appropriate inventory levels based on BOM requirements. Monitor and track inventory status, initiate purchase orders as needed, and ensure timely delivery of components or raw materials.
- Collaborate with finance and production teams to calculate product costs based on BOMs. Participate in cost analysis and cost reduction initiatives to support the organisation's financial goals.
- Create and maintain accurate records and documentation related to BOMs. Ensure that all relevant stakeholders have access to up-to-date BOM information and associated documentation.
- Act as a liaison between internal teams and external customers to ensure clear and timely communication regarding lead-times and any design changes affecting the Bill of Materials.
- Take ownership of investigating defects and errors attributed to BOM building processes. Implement proactive measures and sustainable long-term fixes to improve overall quality and minimise recurring issues.
- Identify areas for process improvement in the BOM management process. Propose and implement enhancements to streamline workflows and increase efficiency.
- Work with high accuracy to reduce front end input BOM errors.
- Upskill to learn Drafting process, interact with 3D CAD models, assist in updates and changes required to drawings. Assist Drafting Team when workload in BOM building is low.
- Management of the procurement of non-stock components within custom Job Orders. Ensuring the timely delivery of custom parts inline with production schedule.
