The DVC Education portfolio supports the development and implementation of the University's strategy and vision for teaching and learning and students' educational experience. The portfolio contributes to institution-wide developments aimed at improving student learning, including the University's approach to curriculum renewal, new thinking in pedagogy, learning and teaching analytics, eLearning and quality assurance for learning and teaching. Its primary functions include professional learning and support for educational excellence and innovation; academic enrichment through curricular and co-curricular programs; and strategic, policy, analytics and administrative support in implementing and monitoring the University's vision for learning and teaching.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced academic leader to drive Student Success and institutional excellence in teaching and learning. This role occupies a pivotal position in providing academic leadership in strategic educational decision-making through the lens of data analytics. This continuing position is dedicated to strategically harnessing and interpreting data to inform and drive initiatives aimed at optimising student experiences, improving outcomes and student satisfaction, and tailoring educational interventions across the institution to meet the diverse needs of our student body. This is a key academic leadership position that will be instrumental in shaping the University's transformative 2032 strategic agenda.

About you (skills, capabilities and experience)

You hold a PhD in a pertinent field, showcasing a depth of knowledge and extensive experience in driving Student Success and institutional excellence within the domains of teaching and learning. Your career is defined by your academic leadership roles, characterised by a strategic approach and grounded in a deep understanding of data analytics and its application in teaching and learning. With a demonstrated track record of driving change, you've led strategic initiatives that leverage data analytics to optimise student learning, success, and experiences. You have a track record of being able to influence senior leadership and can collaborate with the University Executive and academic and professional leaders, driving transformative change across the university.

Key accountabilities

  • Provide academic leadership in driving Student Success and institutional excellence in teaching and learning through data-informed strategic insights
  • Provide academically informed data insights, identifying trends and opportunities for enhancing students success, retention and experiences across the University
  • Develop and drive strategic initiatives tailored initiatives aligned with institutional goals and the needs of a diverse student body
  • Act as a senior advisor to the DVC Education on matters relevant to the role
  • Collaborate with University leadership and academic and professional staff to drive transformative change in student-centred practices
  • Inform policy development to support educational excellence through data analytics and strategic insights
  • Monitor and evaluate interventions, refining strategies based on data-driven insights and stakeholder feedback.

Successful candidates will also join the Sydney Horizon Educators cohort. The Professor (Education Focused) Student Success dedicates the majority of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (up to 70%), with a minimum of 20% research and 10% governance, service, and engagement. Additionally, you will mentor junior academics, providing advice on teaching methodologies, education research approaches, publications, and career advancement.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a continuing position on a full-time basis and will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
