Queensland Law Society (QLS) is the professional body for legal practitioners, representing more than 14,000 members state-wide. We lead the Solicitors of Queensland with our purpose of Good Law - Good Lawyers - Public Good.
QLS has a part-time (5 days/fortnight) opportunity for a Program Compliance Officer to support the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board (the Board).
This role is responsible for the content review of undergraduate, postgraduate and dual degree law programs. In addition the role will review content for practical legal training programs for compliance against the Law Admissions Consultative Committee’s (LACC) accreditation standards.
Key duties of the role
- Reviewing the content of undergraduate, postgraduate and dual degree law programs and postgraduate practical legal training (PLT) courses offered by universities and PLT providers, and any changes to individual courses.
- Providing recommendations to the Board in relation to the approval of law and PLT programs offered by universities and PLT providers in Queensland.
- Considering and advising the Board (and where relevant the LACC) on potential reviews and amendments to the Accreditation Standards, Priestley 11 requirements, and PLT Competency Standards conducted by the LACC.
- Reviewing applications and briefing overseas assessors in respect of overseas law graduate and/or practitioner’s academic and PLT assessments.
- Updating and maintaining statistical data for overseas graduate and/or practitioner’s academic and PLT assessment databases.
- Advising overseas graduates and practitioners regarding the requirements of applying for academic and/or PLT assessment, and processing applications.
Ideally you will have the following
- Qualifications and/or experience in law and teaching within the tertiary academic sector of the legal profession.
- Experience in reviewing course content compliance within the tertiary industry, and demonstrated ability to identify, research and summarise key issues.
- Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the Legal Profession Act 2007 as it applies to the academic and PLT requirements for admissions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to liaise with and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
- High level proof reading, time management and attention to detail.
