Since 1882, The Girls & Boys Brigade has provided a welcoming, safe place for children and youth who need a helping hand. Based in Surry Hills, our programs are open to children, youth, and their families living within the City of Sydney LGA. The families who access our services experience a wide range of financial, social, educational, and housing challenges. HOURSFull-time hours (40 hours a week). Provision for one monthly non-accruing RDO. Included in the position are up to 4-weekend excursions (up to 8 hours per excursion) paid in addition to the base salary. This role is a Parental Leave Contract cover for 12 months.
POSITION PURPOSE:This is a multi-functional role that includes oversight of all programs at The Girls & Boys Brigade. The position has responsibility for the direction, outcomes, and strategic planning of all programs that the organisation operates in conjunction with the Executive Officer. The role has oversight and direction of the program staff, including permanent, casual, and volunteers.
OVERALL ORGANISATION REPORTING LINE:- Executive Officer
- Overall management and responsibility of all Programs
- Overall financial management & tracking of Program budgets
- Management of all Program Coordinators
- Overseeing casual and volunteer staff within Programs
- Overall management of the relationship with The City of Sydney Council (Surry Hills OSHC Program)
- Be a pivotal member of the management team to discuss the overall strategic direction of the organisation
- Implement, update, and review policies and procedures for all Programs (supported by the Coordinators)
- Manage professional development and training for Program staff, ensuring access to opportunities that support their needs
- Utilise supervision and training opportunities to continue professional development and ensure best practice within the organisation
- Participate in networking and community engagement to promote the GBB and its Programs
- Ensure that the Programs team collaborates with the Fundraising Manager and Fundraising team in providing stories, ideas, and photos for fundraising material and events throughout the year
- Assist the Executive Officer in general administrative, relationship building and office tasks
- Participate in Fundraising events when required
- Oversee and lead the operation and application of the National Quality Framework, including being the Nominated Supervisor for Children’s Programs
- Support and work within children’s and youth programs if staffing levels require
- Participate in GBB Family Dinner nights and activities and support the Family Support Program as required (within normal working hours)
- Support families to connect with and be a part of the GBB community

KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- A current cleared Working with Children Check
- A current cleared Police Check
- An energetic approach to the position and genuine care for the welfare and future of children, youth, and their families
- Direct accountable experience in building, managing, and expending budgets
- At least three years experience in managing and leading a team
- Experience in the delivery of programs for children and/or youth
- Have an understanding and empathy for children and youth who come from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and family structure
- Demonstrated skill in the supervision and positive behaviour management of children and/or youth
- Understand the responsibilities of mandatory reporting in regard to child protection
- Proven teamwork ability

- Excellent digital literacy
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and show initiative and take on responsibility when required
- Ability to communicate positively with children, youth, and their families
- First Aid certificate including Anaphylaxis and Asthma or willingness to obtain one
- Identify and Respond to Children at Risk Certificate or willingness to obtain one
DESIRABLE:
- Degree or Diploma in Child Care, Youth Work, Early Childhood Education, Primary School teaching, Social Work and/or acceptable tertiary qualifications in childcare, youth and/or family support
