Our client, for over 30 years, has had a team of specialists that have been developing, innovative water and wastewater solutions, designed to meet custom specifications for every project.
Their team creates bespoke designs and installs a wide range of wastewater supplies including pump stations, pressure sewers, odour control, maintenance holes, storage vessels, water and wastewater reuse, water supply, and solids handling.
They have worked with clients across Australia and New Zealand, taking on some of the most challenging infrastructure projects with success.
With this, and due to an increase in projects, they require a suitably experienced Project Accountant to join the team at their Southbank location.
About the Role
Reporting into the General Manager - Operations as the Project Accountant your primary responsibility is to work with the project teams to provide then with high quality finance and accounting support. You will the ensure transparency and the timely management of the operating budget and forecasting process for projects, processing transactions, and keeping a commercial finance focus on all projects.
You will support the Project Managers (PM’s) in the monitoring and recording of project costs, revenue recognition and overall financial reporting per project. You will assist both the CFO and General Manager - Operations for overall divisional financial reporting.
Your strong organisational skills and attention to detail will be reflected in the high quality and efficient financial administrative support you provide for the Project department.
Core Responsibilities
- Supporting Project Managers on project forecasting – cost planning including labour – actuals, open purchase orders, cost to complete.
- Establishing, maintaining, and closing projects in the business management tool and ensuring all costs are posted.
- Ensure all project costs are correctly allocated against relevant baselines, including labour recovery into projects and overall productivity.
- Supporting the cash flow forecasting for invoice collections, cost planning outflows with Project Managers
- Assisting with the recording of variations – control over recording of approved customer variations, obtaining/recording costing, margins
- Support in revenue recognition, work in progress for projects and cost accruals.
- Management of reporting and analysis, specifically in portfolio level and project performance against baselines and forecasts.
- Attending and participating in handover meetings.
- Conduct monthly meetings with Project Managers and weekly meetings with General manager to provide financial update.
- Supporting month end & year end process.
- Manage individual project claim templates, issue invoices, and maintain monthly invoice forecast report.
- Facilitate the delivery and return of bank guarantees and collection of receivables.
Skills & Attributes
- Must have 3 + years’ experience as a Project Accountant in construction or similar industry.
- Accounting Degree or CA/CPA qualified advantageous
- Demonstrated skills and experience in planning and executing projects of varying scale and complexity.
- Excellent communication & written skills
- Experience with NetSuite advantageous.
- Advanced computer skills with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excell and all suite of Microsoft products
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain the company ethics and values with strict compliance to all company policies.
- Excellent technical knowledge and skills
