About the Role:
Alcoa is a global leader in sustainable mining and refining, committed to ensuring the safety and compliance of our impoundments/tailings facilities.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Director to lead our Global Impoundments Project Management Office. This critical role reports directly to the Global Impoundments Manager playing a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and compliance of Alcoa impoundments, adhering to Alcoa Standards, International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM), and local Country Laws.
You will lead the Project Management Office, overseeing project managers and external resources, implementing global projects such as the Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management (GISTM), Global Impoundment Monitoring software, and Satellite Mentoring software.
This role encompasses Alcoa-operated (active/inactive) sites, including bauxite residue, mine tailings, and process water dams.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead and manage large, complex global impoundment projects, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, cost control, and quality parameters.
Accountable for the successful delivery of project outcomes within specified time, cost, and quality parameters.
Manage and coordinate all project processes from initiation to completion, ensuring a smooth transition between project phases.
Effectively communicate with Alcoa Leadership, including regular presentations to the Alcoa Board, Executive team, Impoundment Steering Committee, Alcoa Impoundment Lead Team, and Alumina Limited.
Actively participate in the leadership of the Global Impoundment Team, contributing to the achievement of strategic objectives.
Understand, communicate, and mitigate impoundment project development and implementation risks globally.
Meet Alcoa's Impoundment management expectations in safety, environmental compliance, cost control, equipment maintenance, reliability, production, and quality parameters.
Ensure the successful delivery of project outcomes within specified time, cost, and quality parameters.

What you can bring to the role:
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
Civil, Geotechnical, or Mechanical Engineering or Science Degree preferred.
Extensive experience in mining, refining, or a similar heavy industry, including line management and maintenance experience.
Track record in delivering global project portfolios to meet strategic objectives and project metrics.
Excellent communication and influencing skills.
Strong stakeholder management.
