Overview:
Liquip International - part of OPW, is a global leader in fluid handling, metering, filtration and control solutions for the petro-chemical and clean energy industries. Liquip International has an opening for a talented Project Engineer (Mechanical). The Project Engineer (Mechanical) role represents our commitment to developing and delivering highly effective and innovative fluid handling projects to our clients.
This is primarily a design role, which also involves project management, hands on and technical support. The Project Engineer (Mechanical) will be required to generate solutions to suit customer needs and take these from concept through to commissioning.
The focus of this role is the design, manufacture and support of fuel handling solutions, including pumping, filtration and metering systems in tanker, terminal, aviation, chemical and clean energy fields. Beyond design, this role will also require management of all project stages, from quotation to delivery. These projects will frequently be AS and ASME pressure pipework but can also include pressure vessels and other components. These will form part of complex/precise flow control and measurement systems with strict compliance requirements.
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to excel in the delivery of fabricated projects, with a wide range of technical challenges. To succeed in this role, the Project Engineer (Mechanical) will need to be adaptable, proactive and confident in applying their existing knowledge.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Responsibilities:
- Customer and Sales support in relation to technical enquiries on Liquip project offerings and escalated enquiries on OPW and distributed products.
- Design of fuel terminal loading systems following industry practice and in compliance with relevant standards including but not limited to:
- Loading arms and floating suctions.
- Fluid handling components such as valves, couplers, hosereels and meters.
- Structural framework.
- Electronic components - as part of required control systems.
- Ensure designs and projects are compliant with relevant aviation/industrial filtration companies, petrochemical, gas and other industry standards and best practices.
- Estimating and quote preparation for fabricated projects.
- Design and drafting of components and assemblies including layout drawings.
- Management of fabricated projects, including:
- Customer liaison.
- Specification and standards compliance review.
- Design and modelling/drafting.
- Estimating and Quoting.
- Supplier/fabricator communication.
- QA/QC documentation management.
- Assembling and commissioning (where required).
- Creation of and ensuring that all technical documentation, certificates and testing for fabricated projects meets customer requirements. This may include COCs, NDT reports, Hydrotests, ITPs, MDRs and IOMs.
- Generation, maintenance and implementation of project control processes and documentation (including dimensional, painting, hydrotest, weld inspection, project technical reviews, PMP, PQP and risk registers).
- Hands on support during fabrication of projects including design, fitment, troubleshooting/resolutions (as they arise) and final assembly.
- Reviewing the output and documentation of external supplier processes, such as welding, painting, pickling, passivating and galvanizing to ensure their work and documents meet quality requirements.
- Developing commissioning plans as required (and on-site commissioning in some cases).
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or relevant Engineering Qualification.
- 5 or more years’ experience preferably in fluid handling, petrochemical or similar industry.
- Piping or vessel design experience essential (to Australian or international standards).
- Prior experience in managing small projects is required.
- Functional experience with 3D modelling program (preferably Solidworks).
- High attention to detail.
- An ability to work effectively multi-task and work under pressure to deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent writing skills, including quotation and technical report writing.
- Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
Desired Characteristics, Competence and Capabilities:
- Experience within fuelling, aviation, oil and gas, chemical or clean energy industries would be highly regarded.
- Experience in the fabrication, assembly and/or commissioning of pressure pipework or vessels would be highly regarded.
- Experience in fluid dispensing, processing, pumping, metering, or filtration systems highly regarded.
- Knowledge of formal QA/QC documentation including PQP, ITP and material traceability requirements would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of welding documentation, including PQR, WPS and WQTR, beneficial but not essential.
- Hands on experience with fabrication and mechanical assembly would be beneficial.
- Proactive nature and ability to independently whilst follow tasks through to completion.
