Navantia Australia currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. The Project ManagerWarranty and Defects is responsible for managing the investigation and remediation of defect work on the AOR’s.

In this role, you will:
- Primary role as the key person on the waterfront is to manage all aspects of the defect activities to ensure investigations are undertaken, root causes identified and remediation activities completed.
- Support the Ship Maintenance Manager in ensuring onboard activities are incorporated into agreed maintenance periods or if conducted outside an EMP, that they comply with DRP or MWOO requirements.
- Update relevant information in the systems including loading OQE.
- Review technical/work instructions to understand the scope and ensure work is progressing as specified.
- Monitor onboard activities and coordinate reporting of witness and hold points and verify parties have signed off as required.
- Manage the compliance and progress of defect work from a cost, schedule, technical and quality perspective and update relevant stakeholders as required.
- Closely manage all activities with Ship staff and other stakeholders as required.
- Review all aspects related to the safe conduct of work onboard the ship with special consideration for High Risk activities.
- Provide support and assistance to the planning team for the integration of defect activities with other maintenance related activities.
- Contribute to the daily meetings as required.
- Support the Ship Maintenance Team as required.
- Liaise with the Acquisition Management team to ensure OQE and financial reports are provided to enable closure of defect tasks.
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
- Technical qualifications in the marine or naval sector in engineering and project management
- Experience in a service or technician role or similar.
- Proven skills and experience in managing engineering investigations, repair and maintenance activities.
- Experience in a Marine or Naval Engineering environment very highly regarded.
- Experience in a supervisory or management role mandatory.
- Ability to manage engineering activities and develop them through to production including test and trials to verify compliance with requirements.
- Very strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business
- Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance
