Project Officer – Workplace Health and Safety

Clerk Grade 7/8

Location – Flexible – ideally within Murrumbidgee Far West and Western NSW

Employment type – Temporary vacancy up to 30 June 2025

Salary – $106,025.00 to $117,363.00 pa + Superannuation and annual leave loading.

Your role

This Work Health Safety (WHS) Project Officer role is primarily to support the consistent delivery of strategic priorities for the District’s Work Health and Safety program. You will support managers and employees who live in the geography of Murrumbidgee, Far West and Western NSW District, and work for Department of Communities and Justice.

What you’ll do

You will be supporting staff in the Murrumbidgee, Far West and Western NSW district for Department of Communities and Justice. The role will support staff within Community Services, Housing NSW, Commissioning and Planning teams, and administrative executive-based teams. We will be flexible with your office base, and some travel throughout the region will be required.

Day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the WHS function, participate in regional and local committees, ensuring that WHS risks, and incidents are managed in accordance with legislation.
  • Coordinate the implementation of safety initiatives and programs in conjunction with workplace managers to assist our district in meeting its legislative responsibilities.
  • Monitor and evaluate regular audit programs across the region to ensure that legislative obligations are met for areas such as fire safety (wardens and frameworks), health and safety representatives, and first aid officers.
  • Provide statistical information, analysis and reporting to the District Executive while implementing appropriate preventative strategies based on statistical trends.

You'll work as part of a team of five people in Business Management that support Murrumbidgee Far West and Western NSW corporate responsibilities for the district. Your role within this team coordinates the WHS function. Your office base will be dependent on where you live.

What we’re looking for

  • Relevant Safe Work NSW qualifications or related Work, Health and Safety certificates would be ideal, however are not essential
  • Previous experience at managing positive workplace health and safety priorities, ensuring end-to-end management of client service delivery needs according to timeframes.
  • You will be an analytical thinker able to identify and manage WHS risks.
  • You will have exceptional interpersonal skills to help promote a safety culture within our region.
  • Strong documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Knowledge of WHS related legislation and applicable Codes of Practice and Standards
  • Demonstrated ability to provide subject matter expertise, reporting and recommendations into the development and continual improvement of a safety culture
  • Sound understanding of risk awareness, risk assessment, safe work practices and injury management frameworks and methods.
  • Proven ability to actively promote regular consultation, negotiation, and feedback to achieve effective outcomes
  • Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence
