Purpose of the position
The Project Officer will work with the Chief Executive Officer and the project team to support the further development of the mixed cropping and livestock farming system in the West Midlands region of Western Australia. This will be achieved through the delivery of research and demonstration projects designed to build the capacity of our farming members to make informed decisions in their farm businesses. A strong focus of this position will be driving and supporting farmers' engagement in the projects that we deliver as part of our peer-to-peer learning model.
The outcome of this position will be a supported group of farming members who have the information available to make informed decisions in their farm businesses and when considering whether to adopt new farming practices or technologies.
ResponsibilitiesThe Project Officer for the West Midlands Group (WMG) will be supported in being responsible for the following activities:
- Deliver a range of project activities across the region in collaboration with the WMG Team, research partners, and industry stakeholders
- Lead the delivery of discussion group events with farmers that connect growers with the latest research findings
- Collect, manage, and analyse data from trial activities and research partners
- Communicate research activities through a range of print and digital media in collaboration with the WMG Team to the WMG members and broader industry audience
- Work collaboratively with team members and industry stakeholders to grow our industry footprint
- Contribute to a safe and effective workplace
This role is suited to candidates who have an interest in crop production systems in Western Australia and would like to develop a career in agriculture. The West Midlands Group has developed a unique method of supporting its farming members to engage with research, with the successful applicant receiving capacity-building support as part of the role. Experience in a similar field is an advantage but not essential.
We strongly prefer applicants who are willing to question, learn, collaborate, and communicate to achieve the outcomes of this position.
