Where you'll be working:


Aboriginal Health Promotion Officers work within the Health Promotion team within the Population Health unit of Hunter New England Local Health District. Population Health has offices based at Wallsend, Tamworth and Taree.

Population Health is committed to Closing the Gap in Aboriginal health through high-quality service delivery and research, and by actively engaging Aboriginal partners and embedding Aboriginal perspectives throughout all stages of the work we do.

Aboriginal Health Promotion Officers support Population Health processes to be inclusive of Aboriginal perspectives; engage Aboriginal partners, staff, and clients; and embed cultural inclusion into everyday processes to ensure meaningful and respectful engagement with the communities we serve.


About the role:

Aboriginal Health Promotion Officers participate in the development and delivery of evidence-based health promotion services that aim to prevent and reduce harm from chronic disease, obesity, and injury risks in the Hunter New England population. Aboriginal Health Promotion Officers will work in diverse settings, from pre-birth through to high school settings.

A key role of the position will be to contribute to increasing the appropriateness and effectiveness of health promotion services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The successful candidates will be supported by a number of staff including a Program Manager and other Project Officers in the team. Support will be provided in the form of performance feedback, training and during day-to-day tasks.

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Eligible to drive in NSW.
