Project Officer, Research Ethics and Governance (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified role) - The Kirby Institute

  • Employment Type: Full time (35 hours per week)
  • Duration: 2-year Fixed Term contract
  • Remuneration:  $96,960 - $103,434 (based on experience) FTE + 17% Super and leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid working, work from home and from UNSW Sydney campus)

The Project Officer is an Identified role, as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander. This position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only.

Why Your Role Matters:

As the Project Officer, Research Ethics and Governance, you will play a key role in supporting research projects as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers in the area of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research projects.

You will contribute to the coordination and establishment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reference groups across project teams, development of guiding principles for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and management of Research Ethics submissions and approvals. The position will also provide administrative support to senior program staff. 

This role will work across three programs: Surveillance and Evaluation Research Program, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research Program, and Immunovirology and Pathogenesis Program.

The position reports to the Project Manager and has no direct reports.

Who You Are:

  • Demonstrated experience in project management in Aboriginal health, or postgraduate qualifications in public health, or equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training, volunteering and/or experience related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, public health, or primary health care settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, ideally with organisations with alignment to the program (i.e. peak Aboriginal and Torres Strait representative bodies, Aboriginal Medical Services/Aboriginal Controlled Health Organisations etc).
  • Demonstrated experience managing and providing secretariat support for large internal and external meetings.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also take initiative and work independently to manage competing demands.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in particular) for word processing, handling spreadsheets and preparation of presentations.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
