Where you’ll be working
The Centre for Population Health (CPH) aims to promote health and prevent morbidity and mortality caused by modifiable risk factors. The CPH portfolio encompasses blood borne viruses, sexual health, tobacco and obesity. The strategies used to address these issues include state-wide policy and planning, legislation and regulation, program development, resource allocation, performance monitoring, research and evaluation.
The CPH works closely with service provider organisations such as Local Health Districts (LHDs) to manage and support the local delivery of agreed policies, programs and services across the state. Programs and services funded by the CPH are delivered in government, non-government, community and clinical settings.
The CPH approach is characterised by a focus on evidence-informed programmatic and system-level interventions that improve health, reduce health inequity, create healthy environments, promote community action, enable personal health-seeking and recognise the social determinants of good health.
The Prevention Programs Branch provides statewide leadership in health promotion and service development aligned to the Healthy Eating and Active Living Plan, to reduce overweight, obesity and chronic disease.
The Pregnancy and Adult Programs team provide statewide leadership in healthy lifestyle programs and clinical services to address risk factors for chronic disease and associated morbidity and mortality in NSW.
The role of the Pregnancy and Adult Programs team is to:
- Provide tailored health coaching for adults 16 years and over to address risk factors for chronic disease such as healthy weight, nutrition and/or physical activity.
- Enhance services provided for:
- Antenatal care
- People with or at high risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and type 2 diabetes
- Aboriginal People
- Young adults 16-24 years
- Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities
- People from lower socio-economic backgrounds
- Regional & remote communities

About the Role
The Senior Project Officer is responsible for the design, commissioning and delivery of key obesity prevention programs based on the best local, national and international evidence.
The Senior Project Officer leads and manages state-wide program delivery within agreed budget and time frames; and provides strategic advice and support to the CPH executive and across the Ministry of Health as required.
