About the role
The purpose of this position is to design, implement and evaluate a variety of recreational, diversional and social activities to improve or maintain the physical and mental function of patients. The role works collaboratively with patients and multidisciplinary teams across the units within the High Security Inpatient Service, Extended Treatment and Forensic Unit and Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit. This role works with multi-disciplinary teams to provide support for patients to achieve longer term goals of independent community functioning.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Ability to design, implement and evaluate innovative and contemporary recreational activities suited to the needs and abilities of patients with a serious mental illness and in keeping with the organisation's objectives.
- Ability to apply recovery principles and flexibly meet a range of patient needs within organisational constraints.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with patients and work colleagues
- Ability to observe patient behaviour during recreational activities and report these observations to the nurse in charge of the unit and capture these observations in the electronic medical record.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision for day to day activities and show initiative in the area of recreational activities
- Ability to identify priorities, plan and implement activities effectively, anticipate and solve problems, balance resources and cost-effectively manage time and resources.
- Ability to provide services within a risk managed framework, with an awareness of relevant legislation, policies, procedures and work instructions.
- A commitment to professional supervision and continuous professional development.
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the
- Possession of a Certificate IV in Health and Community Services (Diversional Therapy) or Certificate in Diversional Therapy or Certificate IV in Community Services – Leisure and Lifestyle or Certificate IV in Leisure and Health or a similar relevant qualification
