Expressions of Interest are being sought for Landcare Positions across 11 Regions of NSW! 

  

A number of roles across NSW are available in three key positions: 

Regional Landcare Coordinator 

Local Landcare Coordinator 

Regional Administration Support Officer 

  

There are 11 Landcare Regions, in which the positions will be based: 

  

Central West  

Western  

North Coast 

South East  

Mid Coast 2 Tops and Hunter  

Murray  

Central Tablelands 

Riverina 

Greater Sydney  

Northwest  

Northern Tablelands  

There are three key positions that Landcare organisations are seeking across 11 NSW Regions. There will be differing availability and configuration of the key positions across the regions. 

  

Regional Landcare Coordinator 

Local Landcare Coordinator 

Regional Administration Support Officer

The positions are a mix of full-time and permanent part-time, contracted until 30 June 2027, depending on satisfactory performance. There will be a three-month probationary period. Graduates, early and late career professionals and people from diverse backgrounds and abilities are encouraged to apply. 

The positions are funded under the NSW Landcare Enabling Program, a collaboration of Local Land Services and Landcare NSW, supported by the NSW Government. The program will run until 30 June 2027.  

The Regional Landcare Coordinator, Local Landcare Coordinator and Regional Administrative Support Officer positions, will work with Landcare Groups and organisations in the region by: 

supporting and facilitating the delivery of on-ground projects that care for the local natural environment and agricultural systems 

strengthening the capacity of Landcarers by further developing their knowledge and skills 

ensuring effective collaboration and partnerships between Landcare groups, Local Land Services, other government agencies and Landcare NSW 

leveraging funding opportunities to maximise socio-environmental outcomes.

Position Objective 

 The Regional Coordinator is responsible for the management and coordination of the Local Landcare Coordinators and creating Partnerships with local organisations to increase awareness of Landcare NSW and increase funding to facilitate projects both current and future.

Regional Coordinators will work with their Local Landcare Coordinators, Project Managers, Landcare Groups and organisations of their area to support and empower them to achieve their own goals, to participate in Landcare, to partner with Local Land Services and to deliver on the target outcomes of the LP3 - NSW Landcare Program.

Supported by, and working directly with the Board and Chairs, Regional Coordinators will directly interact with Landcare and agencies at the local district and network scale, in addition to local partners and Government bodies. They will focus on empowering participation in Landcare by individuals and groups, to increase the capacity of these groups, to deliver against the target outcomes of the LP3 - NSW Landcare Program.

Regional Coordinators will be expected to collaborate with a range of Landcare support mechanisms including other Local Coordinators, Regional Admin Support Officers, Landcare Committees, Local Government and Local Land Services.

Where the Coordinator is part time, additional hours for project management may be undertaken by the same person where these hours are funded by the project/s or other partners.

Key Deliverables of a Regional Coordinator:

  • Community Liaison – act as a Central Contact point for the relevant Landcare NSW Group to supply information to the public or members.
  • Stimulate local community engagement and participation in Landcare.
  • Raise the profile of the Local Landcare Group
  • Provide support to groups, networks, Landcarers and landholders to participate in natural resource management activities that address critical agricultural sustainability and environmental issues.
  • Undertake and support planning for groups and projects.
  • Administration relating to the day to day running of the Landcare group including payroll.
  • Rostering and Coordination of Volunteers and Members Groups
  • Regular Communication including creation of Newsletters and Social Media with Members and Volunteers
  • Managing Volunteer groups with information or assistance with specific information relating to groups
  • Managing database of information from Landcare to utilise in projects.
  • Communicating information on projects and group work to other members of the team/group
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on activities and outcomes.
  • Facilitate linkages between Landcare activities/projects, Local Land Services and Landcare NSW 
  • Participation in Regional and State Community of Practice
  • Work with Host and Local groups to develop and implement a Local Priority Action Plan
  • Work with the Regional Coordinator to develop and support the implementation of Regional Priority Plan
  • Assisting in Grant Submissions – Grant Fundraising
  • Membership – help to onboard new members and create on-going communication.
  • Fundraising for various projects 
  • Social Media Skills – ability to create and implement communication across social media on various platforms.
  • Interpersonal skills – ability to liaise and engage with a broad range of people effectively and maintain relationships.
  • Project Management skills (Training to be provided by Landcare NSW on project management)
Reporting/Supervision arrangementsPosition reports to the Relevant Landcare Association Board.Links to existing programs

The successful applicant will be working in a broader Landcare network, with support available.  The Local Landcare Coordinator will work closely with other Landcare Association staff and Board members, along with a broader network of Local Landcare Coordinators, Regional Landcare Coordinators and Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitators across (Insert Region) NSW and surrounding regions.

  • Has good coordination, administration, and computer skills.
  • Has a strong interest in, and commitment to, local environmental and agricultural land management issues.
  • Strong time management and work efficiency skills.
  • Is flexible about their working hours over the period of employment.
  • Has a current driver’s license
Selection Criterion

Please address each of the following criteria:

  1. Sound understanding of natural resource management issues in the region and empathy with the local community.
  2. Demonstrated well developed written and oral communication skills, including competency in the use of Word, Excel, email, Publisher, and the internet.
  3. Proven expertise in project planning, management, record keeping and report writing and grant writing.
  4. Has completed or enrolled in relevant Tertiary qualifications such as Environmental Science, Conservation, Land Management and Agricultural Science.
  5. Ability to proactively problem solve in a diverse range of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work with and develop community groups, including group facilitation, action planning and mediation skills.
  7. Proven ability to work with Government agencies, community groups and landholders, including schools and indigenous groups.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision, use initiative and work as part of a team or network.
  9. Ability and willingness to work outside office hours from time to time, to contact landholders and attend community group meetings.
  10. Experience in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Sustainable Agriculture or similar.
  11. Ability to travel from time to time.
  12. Current Driver’s License.

Attendance at meetings outside of normal work hours may be required.

Travel around the region and infrequent travel and overnight stays interstate will be required.

You may be required to use your own vehicle for work purposes and provide us with copies of current Comprehensive or at least Third Party Property insurance policies for your vehicle.  Vehicle use will be reimbursed on a per kilometre basis at the rate set down by the Australian Taxation Office (currently $0.72 per kilometre).
