Lead the change, from the frontline
  
Based in Brisbane or Melbourne the Regulatory Policy Advisor is a key role within a group responsible for Regulatory Policy, compliance and related activity for Shell Energy, specifically for the retail energy business and wholesale energy activities. 
  
This role provides support the Manager Regulatory and Compliance in assessing policy proposals, developing policy positions, drafting policy submissions, support policy lobbying efforts and representing the company in external forums to advance Shell Energy’s position. The role also supports regulatory change processes in advising internal stakeholders on new laws and obligations or changes. The role will interact extensively throughout Shell Energy and related companies and interact with external regulatory stakeholders including government Policy Advisors and officials, regulators and peak industry bodies. 
  
With respect, integrity and honesty, you will:
  • Manage discrete policy and regulatory work areas as agreed with the Manager Regulatory and Compliance.
  • Analyse complex policy issues, research and draft regulatory submissions and other policy and regulatory correspondence.
  • Develop and maintain networks with policy makers, attend forums and work with external stakeholders to develop policy and create the optimal environment for Shell Energy; and
  • Work with the Manager Regulatory and Compliance and collaboratively with subject matter experts, business leaders and EGMs to identify opportunities driven by the policy/ regulatory environment or potential changes to it, in support of strategic direction;
  • Manage regulatory change processes, working with the Compliance team and various business teams, to identify and ensure the business is made aware of regulatory change and the risk or opportunities that stem from such change.
  • Support compliance activities from time to time as a team member of Regulatory Affairs, including managing internal compliance initiatives and providing advice as required.

  • Experience working in the electricity sector, with focus in Regulatory Policy;
  • High levels of organisational, time management and problem-solving skills with ability to manage conflicting priorities within a highly dynamic environment;
  • Sophisticated writing and communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, maintaining and developing networks;
  • Ability to research and analyse complex policy issues of the energy sector.
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to form strategic policy; and
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team delivering outcomes to a tight deadline with minimal supervision and providing support to fellow team members.
